MARCH 2006
MONDAY
MARCH 27
++Ladies, a few things I am loving lately that you may want to check
out:
UNDERWEAR: Most comfortable underwear that i've found is
from American Eagle Outfitters.
They have different styles, but the ones I like are called "Boy
Brief". When they are laying on the table flat, you can readily
see the round leg holes, just like men's underwear. You'll know
them when you see them. (hard to tell from this photo, where they
were on a model) If you are around 30 years old, you will feel ancient
going in there, but just act like you're shopping for your daughter
and you go in there all the time. Also, while you're there, check
out their jewelry and other accessories.

COSMETICS: I discovered BENEFIT
some time ago, online. Fast forward to a trip to Chicago when I
finally found them in person. That's when I bought my first eye
cream. Anyway, i love their approach. The packaging and marketing
makes me feel like A) I'm not trying to be a supermodel, B) I don't
take my looks seriously, C) I'm young and hip.
Check it out! (Now sold at Foley's)
(I bought that dallas
all over face powder yesterday. (I am super fair-skinned) If
you buy this one or another, throw away that crappy brush. It must
be made of boar ass hair, cause its super stiff. I use my own giant
fluffy face brush.) I also bought a few other things, but i'm not
about to give away all my beauty secrets.

EXFOLIATING: Bobbi Brown Cream Wash. I bought this stuff
once when I got a free makeover. Previously, my exfoliating routine
was a washcloth. I think this stuff has made me remember to exfoliate
more often (weekly). I'm not saying exfoliating will make you 10
years young, but i like the refreshed way my skin feels. Its super
mild and NOT drying at ALL. (I think BENEFIT's exfol. is a little
harsh and smelly.)
I guess that it for now! Enjoy.
++OK, the reality is that it may be a few days before I blog again.
So, let me tell you about dinner that Snail made friday night. Toasted
bread, bacon, 2 fried eggs, mayo, avocado, salt and pepper. It was
FINE!!! Totally tears the roof of your mouth up, but it was heavenly.
WEDNESDAY
MARCH 22
++I started a new job on Monday. Starting a new job really takes
its toll on your brain. Everything is different, all in good ways,
but its a lot to take in. The week is going by so slow.
++Tonight, we had a LONG awaited meal at UCHI. Its pretty crowded
lately and much harder to get there than it used to be. We had a
reservation. It was dark and we couldn't take pictures which is
too bad but just means we have to go back. Thank GOD for that restaurant.
Eating there is like going on vacation.
The highlight was the foi gras torchon.... which I guess is like
a condensed version of foi gras. It was served on toasted brioche
with honey glass on top, with a side of tangerine panna cotta and
a few toasted macadamia nuts for garnish. Are you kidding me? Did
you read that right? Ummm...yes. It was out of this world.
FRIDAY
MARCH 17
++The drive that i've been making out to my job for a few years,
ended today. Today was the last day. As I was making that last drive
up to work this morning, along the rolling hills and gazing at the
new wildflowers popping up, i was thinking that its probably the
best commute in town. Really lovely.
But, go to hell bluebonnets! i want an hour of my day back!!!
Actually, i don't know what the new commute will be like. I mean,
its tons closer but not sure about the specifics of traffic and
where my new taco stop will be. Fun new things to look forward to.
WEDNESDAY
MARCH 15
++My 3 vacation days are nearly over. What did I do yesterday? Hmmm....
Yesterday I went to the mall, bought some stuff that I'll probably
return, came back here and heated up some curry potatoes for lunch
and ate them in the sun. Then I made cupcakes. Later, I watched
THE CONVERSATION
(1974) which a friend had lent me from their library. It was slow
paced and enjoyable and an appearance by a young Harrison Ford is
always welcome. After that I was going to watch MANHATTAN MURDER
MYSTERY, which Snail had recorded but it ended up being The
List of Adrian Messenger (1963). Switcharooni by the cable company.
I was only able to stay awake for 20 min of that. I might finish
watching it, but i felt like I was already getting confused with
all the white men looking nearly the same and with some disguises
thrown in to boot.
Today, I wheeled the tv/dvd cart into where I paint and watched
HARRY POTTER AZKABHAN while I painted. Painting and listening to
a movie is big time fun! I'm not sure why, but it just is. It was
a close call between LOTR and HARRY. I also drank a Dr. Pepper and
broke the top rack of our dishwasher. Then I left the house. Driving
down the road, I saw a sign that had me cursing (in a good way)
out loud in my car. Our FAVORITE restaurant (THAI) food is moving
into a location very near to our house. I couldn't stop smiling.
Still smiling, I stopped for a gyro at the greek grocery store,
where they are never happy to have your business. I got my gyro
to go and found a pay phone at a gas station and called Snail to
tell him about the new thai food location. I ate my gyro in the
car by the pay phone. Then I went to get my hair cut and stopped
at the store on the way home. Dinner tonight is seeming ill-conceived.
Something like salmon and portabellos (as sandwiches?) and chips
on the side. We'll see. Need to ice the cupcakes.
TUESDAY
MARCH 14

++Nothing
says, "I have too much time on my hands," like seeing
a matinee. Yesterday, I saw Failure
to Launch, a romantic comedy made complete with animal hijinks,
Terry Bradshaw nudity, the token black kid and Sarah Jessica Parker
trying to hide her age by wearing her hair down around her face.
It was cute -- But i was in an unusually good mood with a belly
full of mexican food, my friend beside me and popcorn in my lap.
One of the previews I saw was for a new Jack Black film, Nacho
Libre. Looks funny. His character looks funny. (Plot line: In
order to save an orphanage from closure, a priest (Black) dons a
masks and moonlights as a luchador.)
Another preview I saw is for the worst idea for a film ever, starring
Hugh Grant. American
Dreamz, a spoof on American Idol.
++In television news, did you watch 24 last night? Man! What a downer.
If people keep dying, i may not be able to keep watching. Next week,
there better be some weddings and babies. Sheesh.
SUNDAY
MARCH 5

++Check
out this complicated butter appliance -- the ButterMate.
You measure and then slice off however much you need! Wow. Downside
being, its not very cute and it makes it easier to eat butter when
you don't have to mess with the parchment paper butter wrappers
and using a clean knife just to slice off some butter. Which means
that you probably end up eating too much butter.
SATURDAY
MARCH 11

++Last night we ate some delicious homemade guac at movie night.
It was the kind of guac that I want to be alone with. We watched
a fantastic movie -- Chopping
Mall (1986). There are security robots at the mall that get
struck by lightning and start killing the teenagers that are partying
in one of the stores late at night. Hilarious. I really do love
cheesy horror movies.
++I
have 5 days off. Then I go to work for 2 days. Then I start my brand
spankin new job. I'm terribly excited and as an added bonus, my
commute will be much much better. Hurray for betterness!
++We are working in the yard this morning. Raking leaves and breaking
down sticks and tree limbs. Its nice to be outside for a change.
++This morning we had to get some breakfast before getting some
items at home depot. Its surprising how few places there are to
grab quick mexican food-- specifically tacos and breakfast tacos.
Specifically drive thrus! what gives? Don't I live hours away from
Mexico? We ended up going to taco cabana and by some miracle, we
had our food quickly and it tasted decent.
THURSDAY
MARCH 9

++Be
careful what you like to hate, cause you'll end up liking it.
Yes, I am talking about American Idol.
We started watching this year from the beginning, largely because
Snail wanted to watch. I was reluctant but too lazy in the evenings
to put up a fight. And for those of you that DON'T watch, and think
you're TOO cool for American Idol, i've summarized some bullets
points of its finer points:
1. Get to watch kids try their hardest and embarass themselves in
front of millions -- on LIVE television.
2. Get to sit back and say which ones are too tall, too squinty
faced, too robotic or too lifeless to win.
3. Get to enjoy the inconsistency of amateur talent.
4. Get to ask your husband if that last person could sing because
you yourself are tone deaf and can't tell.
5. Get to see the sad faces of the parents, as their kid gets the
boot.
6. Get to place bets on how drugged up Paula will be.
7. Get to laugh at the poor kid that just lost and still has to
sing their terrible song that caused them to lose in the first place.
The list goes on. Join in! Don't fight it!
MONDAY
MARCH 6
++I'm hankering to buy a small peice of jewelry lately. Something
better than that of Claire's and something not that of my wedding
rings. I've been looking at:
Kristen Laing
Pio handmade
jewelry by Rachel Lavin
Pagliei
Metals
Girl
It's hard to pick out jewelry if you can't see it in person and
its hard to buy something if you keep looking and never make a decision.
SUNDAY
MARCH 5
++I
went to YOGA this morning. I've committed myself to going to the
teacher that I like and her only. One week, (allergy reasons) i
went to the Kristen Davis teacher and she was just too into herself.
I'm glad to be back to the curly haired lady that I love. Anyway,
this morning, the guy beside me didn't have a mat and looked like
he had wandered in by mistake on his way to Circuit City, though
he was with a lady friend. He was wearing a short sleeve plaid button
down shirt, khaki shorts and a belt. A giant awkward white guy with
no mat. He just did the poses on the wooden floor. While, its true
there's probably nothing exactly wrong with this ... well, it was
odd.
He was about as limber as me. Sometimes when we do poses, I can't
help but look around and see how up to task everyone is. I always
seems to match up with a 50-something year old guy. That's lousy.
I swear i'm going to touch my toes by the end of this year.
++We're making meatloaf tonight. Meatloaf is novel for me cause
I never had it until I met Snail. Snail's temporary crown broke
tonight and we had to make something mushy for dinner. (Better luck
next time, chicken wings)
++ I've been out of sorts this weekend. I'm glad this weekend is
about over cause i'm tired of stumbling around the house.
++ I broke my hand-held tetris high score....200 lines! (This is
what people with no kids do.)
Clap
for February
