: TUESDAY
-- Just came in from a walk around the neighborhood.
--
Today was a good day. Mainly because
it wasn't a bad day, if that makes sense.
--
I am about 20 pages aways from finishing
reading Tortilla Curtain. It is nice to have something to entertain
me, aside from the television. Television has gotten SO very ordinary.
--
I bought a wedding dress over the
weekend, for $350 (regularly $3,000). Got it at Last Call Neiman
Marcus and it fits me better than a glove. Of course, the task
of dress-finding didn't trouble me nearly much as the task of finding
shoes to fit will.
--
There are boxes of stuff in our living
room. The a/c and insulation people finished up friday afternoon
and saturday morning, we put all of the christmas boxes back up.
We didn't put the rest up there because its all crap and could
stand to be reboxed or sold or whatever. ....sigh...stuff....
--
Snail discovered this roasted red
pepper spread in a jar (Zergut
: Roasted Pepper Appetizer, "Pinjur"
- Mildly spices, Prepared by crushing roasted peppers, roasted
eggplant, tomatoes, and onions.) and its darn good. Tonight,
he added it to some salsa and sour cream and made a delicious dip.
I don't even like red peppers. Thing is, when they're roasted,
they are sweet to eat. GO BUY SOME! ( he got it at Phoenicia but
they have it at central market, too ) Thank you, Snail, for yet
another thing for us to enjoy.

It's 9:30, time to paint my toenails.
Good night.

: THURSDAY
-- I think its therapeutic to sing out loud
in the car. I bought a used copy of REO Speedwagon's greatest hits
the other night and i've been belting out the tunes ever since
(mainly "Time for me to fly" and "Heard it from
a friend, who heard it from a friend, who heard it from another
you've been messing arooooooooooound."). I highly recommend
it.
One
of these days I'm going to purchase a copy of Janet Jackson's "Control"
album. I haven't heard that album since high school. Its going
to be fun--the day that I buy it and pop it in the stereo and listen
to it for the first time in years, and sing every word to every
song like it was yesterday (yesterday being high school, when I
listened to Janet Jackson when all the cool people were playing
THE SMITHS). And I'm not too proud to admit that I also knew all
the words to Bobby Brown "Don't BE Cruel" and that one
Jody Whatley album.
My other time capsule album is the soundtrack to ANNIE. I can't
remember exactly when I had that record, but i'm guessing I was
around 10 or 12.
No one's cooler than me.

: WEDNESDAY
--
Things were sure busy around the homefront
today. We had a pest control guy (not a day over 20 if i had to
guess) come out and inspect the newly found termite situation.
It seems we can spot treat the area. Then, the a/c guy stopped
off with our new a/c unit which he will be installing later this
week. Next, we had to get up in the attic and remove all the boxes
so that the insullation people can put in new insullation (also
later this week). When we had just started and Snail was digging
around in the attic, he said, "I think I hear the ice cream
truck." I couldn't hear a thing, but sure enough, the truck
was there and we got ourselves a pre-chore treat (fun). Snail got
a fruit popsicle flavored with Pina Colada and mine was strawberry,
labeled chocolate with a stem in it. We ran into our landscape
neighbor while we were out there and he offered us a Sago
palm for free. (He had already dug it out of the ground, as
he frequently rotates plants and such.) We took it happily and
planted it in the back yard, which led to moving some plants and
other sorts of digging and shoveling. When that was all situated,
we went back to the attic task which went off very well. I really
hate doing stuff like that because when i'm about to lift something
heavy, i start laughing. And with THAT, I would say the day is
done.
-- ActivityStory
was bold enough to respond to my lofty fiction book challenge and
Petunia Girl
sent me a couple of suggestions, as well. I'm excited. Snail and
I hit Half Price
Books (new and used bookstore) Sunday night, me armed with
my lists. I found THE
PIGMAN and I also bought TORTILLA
CURTAIN. I have to read the curtain first, because I started
reading that book on a flight last year and left the book on the
plane, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about those characters
and wondering what happened to them. Its strange how characters
can stick in your mind like that. So, I am going to finish reading
that in order to put those people to bed and then i will move on
to something new from there.
Oh, a funny side note. When I picked up the first book, i was looking
it over for a price and there wasn't one. I had been into Half
Price Books before, but had never bought anything. I went up to
the lady and asked, "How much is this book?"
She said, "Umm, well, most of them are half off the regular
price."
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

: SATURDAY

--
Today we are cleaning some closets and digging
around and through forgotten crevices. In the name of that, I came
across these two pigs. The two pigs are the first web graphics
from my first website (geocities) in 1997/98ish. The illustration
below is much more recent.

: WEDNESDAY
-- I am making a cajun/louisiana
inspired packet of black beans and rice for dinner. Did
the mexicans and the cajuns ever meet up? Because if i had some
avocado, jack cheese, cilantro, sour cream and tortilla chips --
it would all be going on top.
-- This is fantastic.

: MONDAY
-- Let the record show that Snail
wanted to leave the bookstore before i did tonight. It could be
the first time in nine years that such a thing has ever happened.
(singulair) But, he had the
last laugh by making us stop at the creepy grocery store for milk.
-- I
have the desire to read a book.
A book that I will love. IS this too much to ask? And I'm not willing
to waste my time on a bunch of books to get to something I like.
Everytime i stumble around the bookstore, I just leave wtih nothing,
because how would i begin to go about picking something off the
shelf? By looking at the cover? By asking some schmuck that works
there? I need to cut straight to the chase. I need direction. Guidance.
From a seasoned reader like yourself. This could be the challenge
you've been waiting for.
Please consider my requirements (below) and email me your
suggestions: Nothing overly historical, nothing political,
has to be fiction, can't be total cheese girl fluff, nothing with
"The Devil Wears Prada" in the title, nothing science
fiction, it can be funny but shouldn't be entirely joking in nature,
no rape or incest scenes, no hardcore sports, can't be desparately
descriptive, no ya-ya sisterhood, i prefer "action" over
"violence" and i have nothing against a good heist.
If I read your book and love it, (really love it) I will mail you
something handmade and I am true to my word. Oh, and don't suggest
anything by David Sedaris, because that's the oldest trick in the
book. heh.
-- By the way, I did my taxes over the weekend and it was a smashing
success. I want to thank my computer for working, and TurboTax.
--It's 10:15pm. Time for bed.

11
: SUNDAY
-- Last night, I rented THE
LADYKILLERS (1955). I tend to like movies about bank robberies
and when i heard that was the basic story of the new one, i decided
to see the old one first.
--My dad and stepmom have always been super on top of sending valentines,
easter and halloween packages; usually filled with candy treats
and a new toothbrush. This year i got a card. I guess when you
decide to get married, you get cut off -- which seems fine with
me. Easter treatless, Snail and I stopped at Walgreens this afternoon
for a few items. He often goes for chocolate in the purest form,
but I had to have some pecan chocolate turtles. I love those things.
I love caramel and pecans and the chocolate just kinda holds it
all together. Tonight, Snail's Mom made us a delicious ham feast
with potato salad and biscuits and beans. She even sent us home
with some peach pie. I did ok on my gluten intake this weekend,
and considering i didn't have any all last week, i think this one
peice of pie won't kill me.
--The Jessican Simpson and (what's his name) variety show is airing
in about 3 minutes. Based on the previews, this looks to be the
television disaster of the year. I can't wait. I think i'm going
to grab my pie and my sleeping bag and head out to the tv room.

08
: THURSDAY
--I can't find my W-2. I have already checked my two paper piles
and now, i really don't know where to look. Really. We had
a good cookout in the park last night with friends. I ate so many
potato chips and not one hot dog bun. It's Easter this weekend.
I have a haircut tonight. Just getting a few inches off for the
summer. I'm hitting Kinko's on my way home, which could really
be a crushing blow to haircut happiness. But, haircut happiness
COULD power me straight through Kinko's leaving me unscathed. Either
way, i gotta get some things done.

: TUESDAY
-- I just deleted all the posts i had typed out this afternoon.
I told a few stories. Edited. Edited. and then they just sounded
stupid like i was trying to write something. is there anything
worse than trying too hard?
-- We went on a walk around the neighborhood tonight and it was
clear and cool out. When we got back, i finished making some chicken
soup for my lunch tomorrow. I'm aiming to do a bang-up job this
week on 'operation bring lunch to work and
save money.' I'm back to permanently not eating gluten (save
for the occasional weekend treat here and there with snail) -- and
so i'm back to trying to remember what to make to eat.
-- Haven't seen Hellboy yet. I would be just as happy waiting for
it to come out on DVD, but by then i'll have heard how bad it is
and there already isn't much to stand on and then there's no way
i will see it. That is ultimately where the movie industry gets
you. Can't we all rattle off a list of films that weren't any good
by the time we got around to seeing them after hearing 5 friends
say how good it was and catching blips of reviews on the radio or
television....Shakespeare in Love, Lost in Translation, Spider Man
are the ones I always think of. Someone at work said the other day
that no movie can stand up to any amount of hype and i think i agree
with that. Well, ok, except for a few special films that come around
only so often or the ones that no one talks about. (LOTR. Adaptation.
Triplets of Bellville. )

: MONDAY
-- Browsing the hair aisle at the drug store today, i spotted a
packet of deep conditioning...Hair
Placenta. That's gross.

: FRIDAY
--
Originally, i was unhappy about the weekend rainy forecast. But
now, i'm thinking that some gloomy indoor weather may just be the
ticket for getting some things done: among them digging around
for all of my tax papers. And maybe i'll get around to sewing that
button on that sweater. And vacuuming my car. And I'm more likely
to see a movie.

: THURSDAY
-- I got the blood test results yesterday for my celiac disease.
I am disease-free. Hurray! This is good news. I am still going
to largely refrain from eating wheat, but since i don't have the
disease, i can be a little less strict about it.
-- Maybe I should start talking about getting married on this site
because I keep forgetting about it, and i need to get on top of
some phone calls and plans. I nailed down the big stuff a while
ago, like the location for the reception and the catering (BBQ
is cheap). I found my dress and now i just have to go buy it. We
are a little over 6 months out, so there's still lots of time.
I think with another burst of lists and phone calling activity,
i will be free and clear until we get a bit closer to our date
in October.
-- Oh, Did i mention that I am a new person now that I am taking
Singulair? I guess i mentioned
on that 3-24 post. Anyway, its truly remarkable. Snail has been
commenting on how much silence there is in our midst lately, without
me constantly blowing my mucous horn. I agree and would even say
that i'm a little bored now that i can just hang out. I think the
nicest thing is to just be able to go to sleep instead of having
my day rapidly decline as I deteriorate into a allergy train wreck.
One night last week, Snail and I were up until 11pm talking...Just
talking and hanging out. I feel very dignified without used tissues
crowding my personal space.
