I'm
back, people! Houston was a fun time. I had the open road to myself
with a bag of m+m's. I had an empty hotel room and dinner in bed
with no dishes to clean up. I had an unfettered evening to watch
the stupidest girliest movies I could find: Tuscan Sun and Something's
Gotta Give. I had a day to myself to hit the art museums and time
explore the Butterfly exhibit at the Science Museum. I had the
chance to shop anthropolgie and crate+barrel. I had a gregory isaacs
cd to cruise to. And possibly one of the best parts of my trip
was the mix cd that Snail surprised me with for the whole occasion!
It was *quite* unexpected.
By the way, this is the new shaded tropical oasis in the pot by
the front door that we put together recently.

I'm
off to Houston for work. Don't know how long I'll be there or when
I'll be back. I'm slightly excited about the change of pace, as
long as they don't keep me for too long. My hotel is right near
some prime shopping: anthropologie and crate+barrel. hee hee hee.
Snail took me to UCHI last night which is the perfect send-off.
It was lovely as always. The most interesting thing we tried was
a cucumber sorbet. Super fresh and nice.
OH! The tax on my tmobile cell bill just went up, again. Now we're
at $7.22 a month....from $5.96 (back in november). Who wants to
take bets that we will be approaching $10 come next year?
Now that my socks are out of the dryer, i feel set to hit the road.
See ya!

Something
is biting me and I would like to know what. I don't even know when
it's happening; these little red itchy areas just show up out of
nowhere. They are way itchier than a mosquito bite and the red
area gets bigger and bigger for a few days and then finally goes
away. I think i'm going to have to go to the doctor and have him
tell me what it is. How else will i be able to stop it from happening?
What if there is a hovel of spider colonies under the far corner
of my bed? What else leaves these sorts of bites? I may not want
to know......
Remember that comforter I was all excited about putting on my bed
on saturday? Um.....not such a good idea going into summer. Thing
is, it looked all innocent in its tiny rolled up bag but when i
cut the bag open it poofed into a huge poofy comforter. I thought
it would be much flatter. It's too warm! Last night i finally kicked
it off my bed for good--I couldn't handle being hot AND having
itchy legs.

Today
is turning out to be a darn good day. This morning, we dropped
off our Save-the-Date cards at the photo store. We won't be seeing
a proof until wednesday. Then we wandered around our favorite upscale
nursery where everything is perfectly perfect in the land of perfect.
We treat this place like a plant gallery; staring in amazement
at all the strange and wonderful plants that home depot doesn't
carry. And loving how precisely situated they are and how there
isn't a dead leaf or twig to be found. We picked out a few interesting
ones and Snail just planted them in the pot next to the front door.
It looks great compared to the dying vine that was there previously.
And if that wasn't enough, I also moved my art stuff back into
this back bedroom. I had tried to get situated in the living room
next to Snail's art stuff, but i could never get psychologically
comfortable enough to get creative. Its a delicate mojo and I can
already tell that having it back to where so many good things have
happened; that i am going to be back on track soon.
And, i'm not done yet--Today, I folded up the 4 blankets on my
bed and got out the IKEA duvet and comforter that I bought nearly
a year ago. I admit the reason that I had not done it sooner is
a bit insane: Allergies. I had been having some terrifically sad
allergies and with bedding being a big partyland for dust mites,
i just didn't like the idea of introducing something new to the
equation (and the comforter being more of a challenge to wash in
hot water weekly, like the Allergy Experts recommend). Now that
Singulair
has changed my world, I am able to bust out the new stuff and enjoy
it. (Muchos Gracias, Montelukast Sodium)
Oh, and another thing; a friend is coming over in 27 minutes. I
was going to cook her dinner but right now, it doesn't look like
I will be able to put that together. My prediction is mexican.
Anyway, I'm making her watch Triplets of Bellville which i've already
seen and then we're watching Poltergiest, her pick. I can't wait
to pop popcorn and put my feet up. She's going to bring over some
sweet tea, but i think we'll be having some dr peppers before the
night's over.

---thursday,
the 13th

I
have discovered my second favorite flower/weed/thistle. Carthamus.
I will be having these at my wedding. I am really picturing them
as part of the centerpeices, but since i'm ordering my flowers
in bulk from Costco....well, i'm just hoping they carry such a
thing. When I first spoke to the flower lady, she assured me that
I would be able get whatever I wanted, but she probably thinks
that I want roses and carnations. We'll see.
Snail just made dinner -- his famous mexican lasagna. It's cooking
in the oven right now and I can't wait to eat it.

I
like the layery-patterny look of this lady's work. Ali
Douglass.

---monday,
the 10th
Another
monday, another dollar, another day. That sums up very well how
I'm feeling after work. Its a sign of needing vacation. Haven't
had a day off since New Year's. Get here now, Memorial day!
Snail and I made a fantastic meal last night for his mom and grandma.
We started with some appetizers (frozen) and then had a wild field
green salad with orange sections and a light vinaigrette. The main
course was Grilled Beef Tenderloin topped with Roasted Red Pepper
flavored Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes, topped with Garlic Butter
Sauteed Shrimp. For dessert, we had puchased some mini desserts
from the bakery and we all shared those (cheesecake, bread pudding
and a chocolate pots de creme). For our after dinner entertainment,
we started to watch MONSTER'S INC ( for grandma's benefit ) but
she was asleep within 5 minutes, at which time we promptly put
in Pirates of the Carribean.

I
am in the middle of icing some cupcakes to take to a graduation
party. I always enjoy using those piping bags and tips. Such Fun!
If i was getting married here, I swear I would make my own wedding
cake. There are so many possibilities. Actually, I was just telling
Snail that we should really have cupcakes at the wedding instead
of a big cake. I mean, they are perfect in so many ways: cute,
personal, portable, no fork needed, fun, etc.
This morning, snail and I got up around 8am and started cleaning
and doing stuff around the house. It was quite productive. Sometimes
I forget how nice it is just to get up and get things crackin.
The spring has been wonderfully mild, but disappointingly cloudy.

Hurray
for a fresh clean website.
I even rebuilt the page itself. I'm sure that dreamweaver has added
some junk over time and it's smart to make a new start. In the
name of spring, and all.
This week I am enjoying the return of my top lip. See, I have jaggity
teeth and I accidentally bite my lips sometimes....more often than
the average person, i think. Anyway, it turned into two canker
sores, which is more than anyone should have to deal with. I could
barely talk or eat and smiling was at times almost completely out
of the question. It's miserable when it happens and next time I
go to the dentist, I am just going to tell him to file them all
down. Flat, even chompers.
