+ I found a recipe for "Apple Dumplings" in my Mark Bittman cookbook and decided to make it because of the word "dumpling." They came out wonderful. Perhaps even the highlight of my baking adventures. And other than scooping out apple core, I would say they are easy and impressive for dinner guests.
Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of the final product. Which means, you have to hear me describe them -- I was so proud. The way they looked, all 4 of them on my glass cake pedestal, dusted with powdered sugar. Oh, they were a sight! And the crust was super crisp in a way that I haven't experienced with regular pie crust. They totally hold their shape. And the bottom of the dumplings, where the heat and the sugar and crust all meet ---- crusty, crunchy, carmelized dreams lay there awaiting your mouth.

+ This lovely being was outside our patio door one morning. We thought he might be dying but he was gone by that afternoon. That is some color he's got.
+ Before I forget --- this is a 3 or 4 minute must see. Check out this animation done for This American Life. Pure Genius. Link.

+ These ceramic lamps are sweet -- especially with the addition of a 'night light' within the base. Though I don't much care for the shades.
+ Don't you love this little bundle of moss-in-a-jar? I need some of that.
+ After listening to an episode about conventions on This American Life, in which the main subjects are at a Dark Shadows convention. I had to netflix it in a hurry and check out this mysterios soap opera from the late 60's with vampires!!!
As expected the disk arrived and days and days went by until we could sit down and finally watch it. I pop the disk and what happened next? Well, I had ordered a 'special edition' disk with behind the scenes footage and documentaries!!! Luckily there was one episode on there, in spanish. I watched that with English subtitles. Which I have to say -- Spanish-talking vampires? Pretty cool.
Dark Shadows is a short show. And there was only 1 episode. It was a stormy night with a creepy music box and a vampire watching a girl sleep. Not riveting. Maybe I'll order one more acutal disk before I give up.
