ARCHIVE MAY 2009

Monday May 25

First a few photos:

Look at these bugs! have you ever seen anything like that? It's like an overgrown tick with legs! Like a daddy long tick bug. Thankfully, this is not one of our cactus.

This beauty is from our cactus garden. We have a few with this kind of flower, which only lasts one day - one very sweet brilliant day.

*-*-*Happy Memorial Day*-*-*
Let us all recognize the freedom we share in this great country. We are celebrating the occasion with friends, meat, sunshine and perhaps a delicious beverage.

Thursday May 20

One day I came home to find these beauties in my cupboard. It seems my husband got the organization bug and hit up the container store. If there's anything you want to keep fresh, it's those life essentials like tortilla chips, rice krispies and your occasional bag of lemon salty almonds that you got at the asian market.

Dear Future Self, Last night you worked until 1:00am and woke up at 5:30am for an early morning conference call to make a presentation. You will read back on this one day, and say, "Ohhhhh... I remember that - It was the night of the American Idol Finale between that Elvis impersonator and the Richard Marxx guy and I could hear Adam watching the performances, in the other room, while I was on my laptop working. I remember I was tired and I think Lionel Richie was singing with Danny Gokey."

Thursday May 14

We picked up this Tillandsia, member of the Bromelia family, at our favorite garden store the other day, Big Red Sun. It's an air plant and it absorbs moisture from, well, the air... however since we don't live in a drippy, humid rain forest, we have to help it along by offering some water here and there. Nice thing is that it doesn't require direct sun, making it a fine house plant.

It seems plastic or dead, so I am not sure what I think of it beyond a novelty plant item. I am curious to see how it does in the next few months. If I feel like I can't see any change or growth, then I will remain fixed on my original conclusions.

Here's a Tillandsia 'wall garden' over at Apartment Therapy.

Wednesday May 6

A friend came into town and we went/did/saw/ate the following:

Okay Mountain Gallery (name-dropping and south american art)
Domy Books (books and dvds)
The Blanton (Birth of the Cool show and a tiny cookie and rude cashier)
Las Cazuela's (al pastor tacos, twice)
Spider House (beers and IZZE)
Buenos Aires Cafe (steaks and caesar salad)
Salvation Pizza (thin and pizza)
Lora Reynolds Gallery (people watching and art)
Mulberry Bar (tiny and a drink)
Capitol Cruises (private electric boat rental and picnic proscuitto dinner and bats)

What a fun and wonderful time we had! Thank you, Austin Texas. Perhaps this list is helpful to you if you haven't been anywhere new lately.

---Whoa!!! I just noticed that there's only 2 posts for the month of April. I DO need to quit my job! This is unacceptable! Whoa, though, I have been working like a screaming demon. I hate to hear myself say out loud that I have been working a lot. It's the most boring thing to hear anyone say, other than telling someone about your dream. But, it would be remiss if I didn't at least acknowledge my absence. Done. And good-bye.

----Ok, one funny story. I owe at least that. --- Tonight, Adam and I went to dinner at this new Thai place and when the bill came, he mentioned that he had left his wallet at home. When I got my wallet out, I realized that I had no bank card! I had left it at a place I had been earlier. We had no money to pay the bill! Ha!!! Luckily I had my cell phone with me (otherwise I wouldn't have even known anyone's phone numbers to call) and we called a friend that lives very nearby to bring us some money! The day was saved! Don't do that!

April is gone, but can be easily found.
