JULY
30 // WEDNESDAY
9:09pm //
Sometimes
after work, i turn on the computer thinking i'll post something
at some point in the evening, and i then end up turning it off later
never having touched it and that just seems like a waste. I won't
do that tonight.
> I don't like saying the words, "i'm tired" when i'm
at work. Its one of those phrases that you can just find yourself
saying all of the time whether you mean it or not. I was saying
it today and i did mean it. Every night for a couple of months i
will wake up for 20 minutes or so with my itching nose. Why does
my nose itch? Can't they find the itchy peice and dig it out or
something? I have learned that with allergies you are either a)
an itcher or b) a congester. I think the meds for the congesters
are more successful than for the itchers. Tonight, i'm taking 2
benadryl before bed in hopes of preventing the 3am itcher.
> I am ready for august and to change out this patriotic wal-mart
page design. it hurts my eyes.

28 // MONDAY
9:09pm //
We
just had a birthday-sushi-licious meal at UCHI. We took pictures
and I will post in terrific detail sometime when I can. I think
tomorrow night i'm going out with a friend and maybe see the pirate
depp movie. Right now, to top off this evening, we're going to watch
sunday night's episode of Project Greenlight! Good night, sleepy
birthday girl. I better go have me another slice of cherry pie.
2:00pm
//
The mall was an overall success. I
went partially to spend a Bath & Body gift card, only to find
out that the store is closed for remodeling until october. I wondered
around aimlessly and then decided that i better get something to
eat, so I got some chik-fil-a nuggets with barbecue sauce and an
icy crispy DP. While i ate, i contemplated the various birthday
services that could take place at the mall...a glamour shots photo
session (funny, but potentialy depressing if done alone), a hair
cut (another nightmare in the making), ordering myself a birthday
giant cookie, going to 'stitch-a-wish' for a hat with a personalized
birthday message. I opted out and left the mall with some pants
and a red corduroy gap outfit and headed to the other nearby Bath
& Body. I left BB with some smelly shampoos and candles and
conditioners. I am back at home with my Bill Miller Texas Sweet
Tea Jug ready to paint.
side note // What is the deal
with the post office? are there THAT many people that need to mail
packages on a monday at 10:35am? The last time I tried to mail something
it was disasterous, too. I walked in + walked right back out. I'm
not waiting in that line on my day off. Its very discouraging for
mailing to be such an obstacle. I may have to start going to the
specialty mailing stores. With stamps being so available at grocery
stores, etc, you'd think the line would be manageable.
10:20am //It's my birthday today and I took the
day off. I had cherry pie for breakfast and now i'm going to the
mall. The mall is a good place to be when everyone else is at work.
After my trip to the mall I will come back home and paint until
its time to go out for sushi tonight. I'm going to eat super fatty
tuna until I can't eat any more and then i'm going to have one more
peice.

JULY
25 // FRIDAY
> I enjoy having one weekly television program to watch, other
than the Simpsons. It's been since the end of x-files that we've
had such a program in this house, until Project Greenlight was discovered.
I had heard of the show last season, but its just now that we have
HBO. I've heard that Six Feet Under is a quality program, but i'm
too compulsive to jump in at the middle. At some point, i'll get
to renting that series and start from the beginning.
Project Greenlight
offers what every other reality tv show doesn't; interesting content
and real people that are trying to accomplish something. Not only
are there actual people/team dynamics going on, but the show offers
a window into the fascinating impossibility of movie making. Its
a wonder to me that there are any good films at all when you take
the time to consider the variable of personalities, egos, power
plays, deadlines, budgets, logistics that go in to such a project.
When you add in the creativity factor for a director or writer trying
to execute their vision, things really get bonkers. And there's
actors, which are a whole other subject by themselves.

22 // TUESDAY 6:05pm
> I'm duh un.
Done
with that big hairy fun challenging tiring long-lastingfulfilling
overtime-working project. To celebrate this evening, I will be making
some kind of purchase. Something to reward and commemorate and make
me feel like i'm celebrating. Traditionally this sort of occasion
would call for the "partying" or "drinking it up".
In fact, someone this morning asked if i would be getting trashed
tonight. Since i'm not one for going out and getting sloshed, i
have to find other ways to treat/party it up. There will be no getting
schizzle with the nizzle around here. Perhaps just a new pair of
earrings.

JULY
20 // SUNDAY 9:45pm
> For dinner tonight (in order), I had chocolate covered raisins,
chips + salsa and some hard boiled eggs.
> The weekend was productive on the homefront and the workfront.
I was able to paint a little yesterday morning. Tested out the fancy
bristol board. It's a funny thing about nice quality paper...there's
just a world of difference. On the homefront, we had some serious
go-to-town tree triming done which necessitated renting a wood chipper.
I thought i had come face to face with some serious motorized equipment
in my home-owning day. The wood chipper takes all. I kept picturing
that scene in Fargo. Turns out, today's wood chipper has some fancy
safety features. Even still, it's all business. And if you wanna
talk about loud..... well, for my sake and for the neighbors' sake,
i'm glad its over. The yard looks clean.

18 // FRIDAY
>
If you're in the market for some fun artwork to spice up the walls
of your wood-paneled apartment, Storyopolis has quite a stash of
litho prints, original peices, posters, etc. This image
is from a Julia Gorton airbrush and i like this
other one of hers. I like this painting
by Susan Gallagher. Juliet
Borda is great. The ever popular Gary
Baseman. Dig around. Enjoy.
> I ordered some stuff from Dick
Blick a couple of weeks ago and haven't even had a chance to
dig into it. Mainly, I wanted some new papers to try out. I talked
to the lady at dick blick who pointed me to some high-quality bristol
board (not quick as thick as illustration board) and I also bought
some hot press watercolor paper. The hot press has a smooth finish,
so it'll be a little different than the rougher textured stuff that
i've been using. The bristol board is best suited for pens. Anyway,
it was nice to buy some new stuff and not have to endure the silk
flowers and glue guns of Hobby Lobby. I've pretty much sworn off
the local 'craft' stores for serious art purchases. When i'm getting
down to business, I don't want to cross paths with the lady buying
puff paint and a zen faux stone mini-water feature.
>
i made a good little dinner for myself tonight. I attempted to recreate
a meal we had at this french place in Los Angeles (pictured here).
Its simple. First take some delicious bread, spread on some guacamole,
place some shrimp, drizzle with a litte EVOO (extra virgin olive
oil) (for all you rachel ray fans), and toss on a little salsa.
Really fresh and tasty for summer. Since there's no guarantee of
buying a ready to eat avocado, I bought already made guac at the
grocery store. It was tasty, but like everything else these days,
a little heavy on the garlic.
> Its been a long week and few months. Tuesday is the deadline.

JULY
16 // WEDNESDAY
> When I came in tonight, our neighbor's girlfriend was sitting
out front smoking. I've never met her and have only seen and waved
to her once or twice. As i'm about to approach the front door, she
yells across the yard to me. "HEY. WHAD Y'ALL DO WITH ALL DEM
ROCKS?" She was no doubt referring to the 3 palettes of rock
that had just been in our driveway. I wanted to say something funny,
but i'm never good in those on-the-spot moments. I said that they
were all out back. "CAN I CUM LOOK AT DEM SOMETIME?" I
told her 'maybe' and went in the house as quickly as possible. You
know, I really wouldn't have minded showing her the landscaping
if she had walked up to me like a civilized individual and introduced
herself as a respectable adult. If you're going to yell at someone,
you should at least have the manners to introduce yourself.

JULY
13 // SUNDAY 5:45pm
>
I sent an image to print one hundred and twenty four minutes ago.
What do you think? Will it go through? Or should I cancel it? Hmmm.....
>
The cake I made came out fun and tasty. It was two layers with hot
pink and purple sugar crystals, and orange and green icing. On
the way to the party, the top layer started splitting in half. I
really don't know what could cause that sort of thing, but in the
future, i would prefer to prevent it.
>
The weekend was busy and fun and has flown by in a blur and I don't
feel like doing anything else, except wallowing around in my miserable
state of allergyhood. The allergy thing gets seriously old. This
morning at 6:30am as I was blowing my nose for the 20th time, I
decided that I was ready to take the next step to feel better. I
was ready to have the doctor put me under and remove, cut up, or
tie off that thing that will make me better. Oh yeah. That's right
--- um, there is nothing more they can do to help me. In
another last desperate effort, I went and bought an allergy mattress
cover today. The only other thing I can do to help is to tear out
the carpet in my room or move to an altitude where dust mites don't
live. Some place like Denver. That would certainly help the dust
deal, but there's still molds and grasses and molds and grasses
and things.

JULY
11 // FRIDAY
>
Hello. It's friday night. I just tossed a couple of cake pans in
the oven. The cakes can cool tonight and i can decorate tomorrow
to take to a party tomorrow night. I'm excited about using my decorating/icing
kit and getting all birthday crazy with it. A friend will be 29.
i just popped out of my office chair in a panic thinking maybe i
didn't hear the timer. The timer had 8 seconds left on it. That
must mean i have the keen senses of a pasty chef.
> I'm working in the morning. Just from 9 to 1. It won't be so
bad. Our big deadline is coming up on the 22nd and we're just trying
to stay ahead of schedule to prevent any last minute future craziness.
I am a huge proponent of working now to keep it real, later. Additionally,
i'm being bribed with tacos in the morning from my favorite taco
hole (tacoshack). This particular taco hole isn't near me and so
i don't get to go there unless my coworker brings them to work.
I always get potato and egg. No cheese for the cheese disease girl.
> This coming week will mostly be production work to make sure
and double make sure that all the files are ready to send to press
(on the 22nd). This will be my first time sending files from Indesign,
but from what I can tell, the collection process doesn't seem to
be too different from quark. The one weirdness I came across while
working was that when I tried to import some eps files (created
in illustrator), the file would come into indesign (using the place/import
function) slightly distorted. I ended up just copying and pasting
to work around that. I tried and tried to figure out what was up,
but i never could make sense of it.

JULY
10 // THURSDAY 10:10pm
>
I'm not feeling the blog love lately. Blogging at home turns out
to not be my thing (- remember i started blogging at home because
of some network stuff at work that wasn't letting me post anymore).
When I'm posting at work, i don't seem to mind talking about stupid
things. When i'm home, none of anything really matters and i just
don't have much to say, cause i'd rather be doing something else
or else i'm just winding down. I think blogs are for when you're
trapped in front of a computer. Or maybe its just that i don't have
much going on like I did when i started this thing last summer.
Ho hum.
> Got my hair trimmed at a beauty school today for $5. There
were mostly old people in there. I went because a girl i used to
work with is getting her certificate of beautification. i'm sure
they need to rethink the word 'beauty.' but then, beauty university
has a nice ring to it.
JULY
08 // TUESDAY 7:45am
> I can say that I AM sleeping better the
last couple of nights since I decided to go to bed with my hair
up. Seems silly, but my hair is long and i was having to wake up
every time I wanted to turn my head because my head wouldn't move
because the end of my hair would be under my shoulders. It was becoming
a real problem. Too much waking up.
> I saw this weird show last night as i was making the final
channel flips before going to sleep. It was on the oxygen channel
and the show was called "Can
You Tell?" and the teaser showed pairs of people that looked
similar and the gig was can you tell which one of these people does
one thing and which one does another (i.e. which was is a real doctor
and which one plays on on television?). Seemed silly enough. I kept
watching and when the show began, they brought out three blind-folded
judges (show is hosted by Tony
Rock, Chris Rock's brother). Next they brought out two contestants,
a black lady and a white one. Each judge had about 30 seconds to
ask the contestants question, in hopes of determining which one
was the black person and which one was the white one. Some of the
questions were, "Have you been to a monster truck show?",
"What do you think of your butt?", "Do your friends
make fun of you when you dance?" There was another question
about "spicy or cool ranch" and one about "bling
bling." Ok, that's all i can remember. It was totally completely
weirdo. In the end, only one of the three judges got it right.

JULY
06 // SUNDAY 9:20pm
>
I was going to go on about our great july 4, but i'm tired. We had
the bricks/stone delivered today (3 palettes worth) for the backyard
project, which is to dry-build about 3 planter box areas. We actually
got the smallest one built today. Its going to be a fairly big project
and a much needed upgrade. Our house had little to no landscaping
when we moved in, particularly the backyard. When we get the bricks
built up and the dirt and plants in, its going to look supercalifragilisticexpealidocious.
> I tried some redbull yesterday afternoon for fun. I think it
made me kinda wacky, but i can't say for sure until i try it again.
It tastes like carbonated cough syrup, which isn't really a bad
thing. Definitely medicinal. I want to look up how much caffeine
is in those. I can't believe that with drinks like that, there are
no requirements for labeling caffeine amounts.

JULY
03 // THURSDAY
> I'm happy to have a full weekend ahead
of me. No traveling. No working. No obligations. I just picked up
the CA illustration annual and I can't wait to crack it open.
>
We got some new highlighters at work. They are retractable.
Highlighters tend to be on the fat chunky side and the retractable
feature makes them even more so and well, i just think they're really
neat. I also noticed some retractable
travel paint brushes at Dick Blick. I'm less sure about those -
guess i'd have to see them first hand.

JULY
02 // WEDNESDAY
> I'm back. It was a good two days of traveling
and two days of laying on the beach in Kill Devil Hills, NC. The
weather was nice; perfectly sunny but not too hot. I spent as much
time as possible either on the beach, or inside looking out at it.
The beach has always been the very definition of vacation, since
that was the one thing we did every summer for one week growing
up. These days vacation is usually going somewhere and looking at
stuff. So, if even for two days, it was darn nice to just sit on
the beach. My only regret is that we didn't hit the go-karts.
> This may only strike me as funny, but i passed this xeroxed
sign on the way to board one of my flights. I ended up on a small
airplane to reach my destination and the sign was posted on the
tarmac as we all made our way down and out and around to board.
To need a pointing arrow to find something five times the size of
my house is pretty funny.
