ARCHIVES: SEPTEMBER 2003

SEPTEMBER 27, 2003 : saturday

> This weekend isn't going very well. I think i'm getting sick. It might be allergies, but if that's the case, its not my usual bag of symptoms. I'm having that feeling in the top back of my throat. Its not a scratchy feeling. More of a sore one. I don't mind getting sick during the week and missing work. But missing a weekend? A 3-day weekend?!?! (i'm taking monday off).

I'm just going to die laughing if i'm home all day monday, my vacation day, watching the makeover story instead of painting or shopping or gardening. That's going to be really swell.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2003 : wednesday

> If you haven't tried MOCHI ice cream, you should. I guess i should be prepared to tell you where you can buy it, but we have a resource at our local japanese toy and bubble tea store. I'm sure you can find it at a local asian grocery.

If you haven't had mochi, its like a soft rice pancake thing. I guess you can buy them plain, but these are wrapped around a little ball of ice cream.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2003 : monday

> I went to the acl festival and lived to tell about it. We went friday night for Dwight Yoakum and Sunday for Ween. My method of approach was get in, see something and get out. I didn't get a full impression of the fest until i was there yesterday in the daylight. 50,000 people is an impressive sight. I am still in awe. I have never seen so many people in my life. Never. So so many people.

I had my concerns with going to the fest at all. Luckily none of my worst fears came true. A) Didn't have to use the portapotty. B) Didn't
get trampled.

Also, I was excited to see my first ever streaker during the ween show.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2003 : wednesday

GIANT HEAD PERSON
> The headphones that i wear at work, nearly every day, start squeezing my head right before lunch time. When i put them on after lunch, its ok at first and then, its like my head is in a vice slowly being tighten and then the music starts to feel like knives carving a hole in my ear drums. If that's not enough......The ones that i have at home are equally brain pinching, but i don't really use them because the wire is too short to reach from my computer to my art desk chair, even though they're right next to each other. Of course, if my home computer had speakers, i wouldn't need any torturous head equipment. I seriously need to take care of these issues.

SEPTEMBER 16, 2003 : tuesday

> I'm not sure what this journalist is smoking, but anyone that says, "Suggestion: Go for the low-calorie yeast doughnuts" is a friend of mine. I came across that comment when I was researching the calories in Einstein bagels, who don't post nutritional info on their cutely illustrated website. Of course, an einstein is no where near my house and having a bagel for breakfast is as much a reality as waking up and making my own bagels.

Incidentally, i can't resist commenting on their NEW Panini Sandwiches. Has anyone else noticed that paninis are sweeping the nation like last years wraps? and the-year-before-that's salad in a cup?

SEPTEMBER 15, 2003 : monday

> It was a good food weekend starting with a much desired cheeseburger at Fuddruckers friday night. I probably eat about 4 burgers a year, so this one was a long time a-comin'. That buttery grilled bun, just crispy on the edges, combined with their burger-fixins-bar can not be beat.

> It sure seems like summer is gone, but i'm reluctant to pack up my summery clothes just yet because i can remember many years in Texas when the summer seemed like it would never end. Maybe we're in the beginning of a really nice fall. That would certainly be ideal.

> I nearly forgot to mention that I tried a fried Twinkie, at a sushi place. I'm no twinkie fan, but it was pretty delicious, tasting not unlike a filled doughnut. I had only one bite, which was plenty for me.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2003 : friday

> Look at this way cool haunted house gingerbread kit by Martha Stewart. Of course, i have no intention of buying it but I really like the idea of it. This only reminds me about my intentions this year to do a Christmas time gingerbread house. I'm telling you, now that we are in September, its all a downhill slide through holidays to the end of the year.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2003 : monday

> I'm not going to be updating much, because my computer is down for a bit. In the meantime, we purchased LOTR Part I on DVD and are busy watching and watching. God, i just love that lotr stuff. I can't get enough. See ya.

SEPTEMBER 2, 2003 : friday

> I guess i am trying to do too many things tonight because it seems i am fighting the cosmic forces rather than working with them. i went to the gym, ran an errand, went to the store. all of that went without incident. came home, started making some soup for my lunches -- burnt some garlic, droppped a plastic container of something from the spice cabinet, tried to make a phone call on our land line and the cordless was dead, tried to make a phone call on our NEW cell phone and the call failed, tried to blog and my connection wouldn't work. It just isn't happening for me.

> I think in a year or so, this site will have totally morphed into a food blog. All i really want to talk about is food. So, over the weekend we made a trip to the nice grocery store to pick out something delicious to take home and eat, in honor of the Labors of Day. No problem for me. I went directly past the chocolate case and right over to the bread area and laid my mittens on a container of one sticky bun. ( I really wish i had gotten stickybun.com.......the bun was domain-inspiring, it was that good.) I get home with my bun and cut it in thirds ( in order to have more than one sitting of bun eating ). I heat it up, and when i put it in my mouth i know that i have found the stairway to dessert heaven. This bun was a twirled thing like a cinnamon roll and the bread was flaky and it looked like a ladle of caramel was just dumped on top. No raisins. No nuts. The way i felt when i was eating that bun must be how some women feel about chocolate or how some men feel about fast cars.

> Scissor report: all three scissors currently hanging on nails in closet.
