I am enjoying the BARTIMAEUS TRILOGY like no other books I have enjoyed before. I spent all day yesterday in bed -- I was overdue for a lazy day -- and I finished Book 2. I plan to start Book 3 tonight.

These books are in the preteen category. If I had to compare them to Harry Potter -- Ok, I can't compare them. They are different. Definitely a little more dark and evil. A friend of mine is reading them also... (shhh, I might have the makings of a book club. Like a real book club where I actually read the books). She invited me over a few weeks ago and we watched the film adaptation of ERAGON, which was of course, awful, but it was fun as a way to talk about the book. I hope they never make BARTIMAEUS into a movie, cause they would ruin it.

I HEART BARTIMAEUS!

Just because there's only 10 days left in October doesn't mean I can't still do a Halloween header. YAY, Halloween!

It's been such a busy month with working, an open house neighborhood tour, my family coming to visit, a baby shower, Adam's family visiting, Adam's birthday, our anniversary (this week), and 2 weddings coming up. Today is the first day in a while that I've been able to do whatever the hell I want. Like nothing. Like painting. Like eating an avocado on my back porch. Like working on my blog.

Friday night we made a big birthday dinner for Adam, his mom, his aunt, his uncle, and his cousin. Adam had gone to the store and bought whatever he wanted and it resulted in quite an impressive spread. The evening started with brei, caviar, crackers, smoked jalapenos, fresh mozzarella in olive oil and spices, walnut porcini mushroom cream spread (store bought) -- and that was the appetizers. For dinner, tiny roasted potatoes, peas, lamb steaks with a New Zealand lamb rub, jerk pork tenderloin. For dessert, a cheesecake I picked up at a local bakery, Black Muscat dessert wine, sour cherries and fresh raspberries...

OH, that reminds me. A tip from Sleepypie's Kitchen: Fresh raspberries make awesome birthday candle holders. Very Cute.

It's suppose to get cold tonight for the week..... I'm hoping for some pumpkin carving this year. Better get on that soon!

Tonight, I purchased the little guy pig on the left from elsita on Etsy. She has an amazing and wide range of talents, including these dolls made from paperclay. Check out hese 'curiousity box' peices on her blog -- INSANE GOODNESS, people!

I can't understand why Dillard's doesn't redesign their shopping bags. I mean, a white bag with a single black logo would be a huge improvement over grey and dark blue -- and wouldn't cost any more. What gives?
