[decorations at my mother-in-law's house - her fireplace]
It's a crisp fall Halloween evening at our house. There's a fire burning out front. Drafts of pinion breeze through the open windows. A full moon shines bright through cleaned windows. The fiber optic pumpkin is working it's magic. Adam is cooking turkey meatballs. Football is on the television. Laundry is drying. Candles are burning. A half-eaten homemade apple pie waits on the table. Fresh sheets are on the bed. All is well.

Everyone reading this, that has cable television, should make every effort to watch The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack on Cartoon Network. It's a half hour show (not necessarily for kids), containing 2 15-minute shows. What can I say about this show except that I LOVE it? It's funny, cute and the animation is even suprising at times. It's fresh and innovative. Please watch it.
Pictured above is Captain K'nuckles and Flapjack.

A subscription to FOOD NETWORK MAGAZINE showed up unexpectedly last week. I thought it was in error and began to enjoy it while my husband say, 'Oh, you got my gift!.' Yes, I did. I like looking at magazines, though lately I have been scant on subscriptions.
Tonight I bring you a few memorable items from this month's issue:
1. Cookin with Coolio - Coolio has a cookbook. "Start your Ghetto Gourmet adventure...." Weird.
2. Jumbo Krispies! Yes, Rice Krispies (maybe my favorite cereal) now comes in big size! Can't wait to try those.
3. The 4 in 1 Breakfast Maker Toaster Oven / Coffee Maker. What? I don't know what to say and I don't get it.
4. Not from the issue, but while we're on the subject of odd products on the market: Pouporri Bathroom Toilet Spray. You spray this IN the toilet, before you go.

We went on the Austin Architecture Homes Tour this weekend, which we have done for about 6 or so years now. Seeing how other people create the spaces they live in will always be something we enjoy. Most of the houses tend to be new construction homes and many of them are modern.
There was a historic home on the tour - can't remember when it was built - probably mid or late 1800's. It was small and cirkety and super cozy. All of the painted wood reminded me of Virginia. In the quaint kitchen, there was a cast iron pot of simmering spices on the stove - clove, cinnamon and orange. Since I can't have that fireplace, or the clotheline that was accessible out the laundry room window - I think I will buy one of those and try to relive it this winter.
......And pretend the word 'potpourri' has nothing to do with it.
MONDAY OCTOBER 5

[Our trip]
I am back from vacation. I highly recommend it - good stuff. We spent a full week, split between Wyoming and Colorado. We have always wanted to return from Wyoming after going there in 1997 to visit Adam's aunt and uncle who, at the time, oversaw a HUGE ranch. It took 12 years, but we made it back. We stayed the 2nd part of the week in Red Feathers, Colorado which is near Cache La Poudre Canyon - another area we wanted to return to.
Memorable Moments:
1. 3 seperate Moose sightings
2. Lost our camera on day one... or... was it stolen? .....?
3. Rolling open land of Wyoming
4. Bright yellow Aspen trees
5. Outside fire pit and fire inside
6. Beef burrito smothered with Green Chile
7. Apple Pie with melted cheese eaten by the fire outside
8. Babbling brook 20 feet from our back door (Wyoming)
9. Heavy snow in upper Poudre Canyon (Colorado)
10. Hot chocolate with a huge pile of whipped cream
11. Painting outside
12. Watching Adam be so happy -- fishing
13. Being lazy and reading while it was chilly outside
14. Small picnics with our little cooler - cheese, apples, chips and diet cokes
