Saving Myself

+ Did you see me eating cranberry sauce last March? No. Did I make green bean casserole last July? I didn't. Was there a pumpkin pie baking in my oven in May? No way.

As you can see, it's a long year waiting for the wonderful flavors of Thanksgiving to arrive. I spend all year thinking about that cold peice of 8 o'clock pumpkin pie - that little triangle tip from the first bite of pie. Sure I could eat pumpkin pie any day of the year but that would be no fun.

I am certain you can see why I abstained from partaking in the Thanksgiving spread that appeared at my place of work last Thursday. Why on earth would I wait all year for pumpkin pie and then gulp my pie tip down at the first sight of it, while talking to some yahoo that I work, under flourescent lighting. Yeah. I mean, I get that companies have these potlucks and I sincerely appreciate efforts such at these, but I would argue, "Let's have a Mexican Thanksgiving potluck" and then everyone can still appreciate the anticipation of that first serving of grandma's sweet potato casserole, gathered around the bountiful table of their loved ones on Thanksgiving day.

That's what I say.

-We drove 4 hours northwest of town and stayed at friend's house for one night this past weekend. It would be difficult to nail down the highlights... cracklin fire? s'mores? grill-cooked quesadillas? bacon? old A-frame wood cabin with turqoise metal kitchen cabinets? glider chairs? crunchy fall leaves? All too charming indeed. Thank you, friends.

-I DID discover on this trip, that I was the only wife there without a cute pair of house slippers! What gives? and where on earth do you even find such a thing - something uniqe and cute but not a giant stuffed tazmanian devil?
I have consulted the internet and posted my findings below. In summary, there is room in the marketplace for improvement......

Tuesday November 4

- I always say that once October comes around, it may as well skip right to January 1 because that's how fast the end of every year goes past me. It's the hurried onslaught of continuous activities in the last part of every year and I usually feel like I'm along for the ride. It starts with Adam's birthday in mid-October, followed by our anniversary and then Halloween, and Thanksgiving and so on. And here we are in November.

- Also consuming my free time is the Wii that I bought Adam for his birthday. I have resisted purchasing a gaming system ever since I played ATARI. It seemed like once you opened the gaming flood gates, there would be no turning back and that is very akin to how I feel about the Wii Lego Star Wars game that Adam and I are playing together. I am so impressed with the depth of the game itself - in the 2 or 3 total hours that we have played, we are only 2.9% through the whole game! There's numerous star wars characters and worlds to explore together. And with my utter tiredness of the media and the election and all of the tv shows that I don't watch, the timing couldn't be better.

-I started a new job almost 2 months ago, which came complete with a healthy commute. Nearly every morning, I make up a big travel mug of hot tea for the drive. I never expected a travel cup of hot liquid could bring such joy.

October went by like a bat out of hell. You didn't miss much.
