ARCHIVES DECEMBER 2007

Monday December 31

I guess the biggest change for me in 2008 is that I go into without a steady job. I've intentionally led a risk-free life and it feels refreshing to do something that's a little out of my comfort zone. I've avoided the idea of freelance work for many years, in an attempt to take the easy route, and I'm proud of myself for making the leap and trying something different. Who knows what it will lead to -- if nothing else, I'm hoping to be less stressed creatively which will lead to more room for painting.

Also in 2008, I hope to drink more hot tea and see more movies. And go rollerskating.

Happy New Year's To You!

Sunday December 30

With Adam down the last several days with the flu, the house has been extra quiet. I decided I better work through my differences with the ipod in order to keep myself entertained. The result is that i'm hooked on my audio book and it sure makes daily chores more enjoyable. There's still some glitches with bookmarking that I'm having to work around. I would give it 85% happiness. Which comes out to 4 happy stars out of 5.

Thursday December 27

+Life as usual.
Cheers to being back to my life after a very enjoyable trip home with my family. My 2 year old neice was loads of fun to be with and I cherished every moment of playing house, dancing and kissing her soft belly. My 6 year old neice is growing into a little girl and I got to do some coloring with her in her new princess coloring book.

+Lost and found.
I couldn't wait to get back and share some photos, specifically of crafty item in my aunt's house. It's fun as you get older to appreciate and seek out the things that some of your relatives may have in common with you -- things that you had previously overlooked. The bad news is that I left our camera at a restaurant on christmas eve. Later, the manager said he didn't see it and I was mad, but later later after we were back in Austin, we got the call they they had it!!!!!!! I'm so relieved and Adam can stop giving me dirty looks. My dad should be putting that in the mail shortly.

+Salmon and happiness.
Tonight, we are making our household dish: Salmon. And we are going to watch the most recent Harry Potter. It's the perfect night.

+ipod letdown.
OH, I wanted to report back on my ipod shuffle audio book experience. 5 rotten stars out of five. In short, I was half way through my trip and loving the starting/stopping of my book... namely the first 2 hour chunk. I had just talked to Adam on the phone and said, "OH my goodness, it's the greatest thing EVER!" And then when I hit play, it was mid chapter 2, when i was already at chapter 12. I fastforwarded to the right place (which is SLOW) and then it happened again! And then I threw my ipod in the trash. I mean, I WANTED to throw my ipod in the trash.

+Things to do.
I am thankful to have the next 3 days off. I could probably easily spend all of that time around the house - putting away our 4 christmas trees, running errands, etc. etc. etc. I am promising myself that I won't do that. Time to get back to painting. And must see AVPR. (soon)

Sunday December 16

+Tomorrow I am off for Virginia to visit family until December 26th. I am packing, checking the gift list twice, making sure I have all my medications, doing laundry, sneezing, cleaning, etc.

+I can't wait to eat a Salt Lick breakfast taco at the airport tomorrow morning. (I am suffering from breakfast taco withdrawal and its no laughing matter.) The last time Adam and I ate at the Salt Lick taco stand, we split a bacon and brisket one! Totally vacation-decadent. Did I ever tell you about that? Well, you can be sure that mine will be a simple potato and egg. As for the plane trip itself, I am a full agenda of activies planned to keep me busy. I have decided on the book Magyk (for my ipod shuffle)-- at once I will hear my first audio book AND simultaneously move past my prejudice against words spelled in weird wayz. (shudder). And I will work on my Christmas Card all at once!

+I don't have any plans for the week - except a pedicure with my stepsister Tuesday morning. I am desperately hoping my dad will drop me off at the new outdoor mall so that I can stroll around, soak up the christmas spirit, use my Victoria's secret coupon before it expires, watch everyone rushing to do their errands and perhaps I will catch a matinee. I DO love to see a movie by myself and it's not something I do much these days. And I think I have 2 months of reading to catch up on, with Design Sponge.

+Before I go, I must share some items that I already shared with a friend of mine: Hand-painted Clock and Chubby change purse at Free People.

+One more bit of holiday inspiration: I want to travel back in time to 2003 when a friend and I decorated pre-made gingerbread houses (purchased from the bakery at a local specialty grocery store). I'm sad to report I haven't done it since, BUT I SWEAR I WILL ONE DAY! Check it out!

To everyone: Have a merry little christmas! May your heart be light!

Tuesday December 11

These artful festive woodly painted peices by G. DeBrekht Artistic Studios caught our eye at Neiman Marcus tonight. I am in love with these richly, layered, abundantly flourished figurines. Most of them stood about 5" tall or so and run $60 and up.

Look at the awesome texture on the trim of his jacket and beard and the embellishment on that jacket. [Hedgehog Santa at Karen's Shop]

Adam commented that this horse was very Jeff Koons inspired. I happened to enjoy how they did the hooves and how his hair covers over the hoof part... nice. [In Full Bloom]

[Country House - retired] Someone build me this house for real and I will live there and cook fried chicken.

whew! ....end of painted figurine tangent. One more - Bird Lovers Santa!!! I've always loved the Nature/Santa concept.

Monday December 10

I must be working again which is why I can't blog. Yep. Thought so.

Here's the letters I painted for my neice's room. That's only half of the letters for just her first name - Greenlee. The letters are about 7" tall and made out of that brown paper mache stuff you see at the craft store. They were the least offensive font and I like that they stand up on their own and could be set up on a shelf, instead of only hung on the wall. Of course, it's always good to spend the time to MAKE something for the EASIEST person on your list to BUY for... a 2 year old. (sigh) Honestly, I offered when my stepsister was about to buy some from a catalog that weren't half as cute as mine.

This is a close-up of my new football project. Its about a square area of 6"x6" that will be filled in with random beads. Football project means that I have something to work on when I watch football with Adam. I wouldn't say I'm a busy body -- I would say more that it's fun to do something mindless sometimes while you're doing something else that's mindless.

I have often wanted a big long term project to work on like this. The key of it is that it can't require much thought. And one day, I was looking at my shoebox of beads and I was like, "what a shame that all of these tiny colorful shiny beads are laying to waste.

I promise to show another photo when its done.

I hope you are doing better on your christmas shopping than I am. The thing is, no one needs anything. I mean really.

But I need one of those cute zippery fossil items I saw at Dillards today. It's a travel jewelry container.

I'm off to watch Monday Night Football and bead.

Don't miss November!
